Abstract
Saving Private Ryan is one of those films that perfectly represents the essential values of the United States, including patriotism and human caring sense. This film tells a story of a general being informed that three of the four brothers of the Ryan family were killed in action and their mother would receive three telegrams to inform her, so the general ordered that Ryan must be found and sent home immediately. The captain Miller received orders to find Ryan and to bring him back from the front. He assembled seven men from his company. Patriotism and human caring are both demonstrated in this film, from the beginning of the war to the end of the film.
This thesis aims at analyzing the patriotism and human caring elements showed form this film, giving a comprehensive view to better understand the deeper meaning of this film. This paper consists of three parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the plot of the film, setting the background of the whole thesis. Next, the author analyzes the culture of the United States, giving introduction to the origins, definition and significance of patriotism and human caring embodied in the United States’ culture. In the last part, the author therefore analyzes how patriotism and human caring are woven in the film, specifically analyzing the letter, the war and the end of the film.

拯救大兵瑞恩这部电影完美诠释了美国文化中的核心价值观，包括了爱国主义和人文关怀。电影讲诉了一位二战时期美军一位将军收到一封电报，被告知一个名叫瑞恩的家庭有三位兄弟战死沙场，而他们的母亲将会在同一时间收到她的儿子们阵亡的噩耗，将军下达了必须去敌后找出瑞恩并将他直接安全带回家的命令。上尉米勒接受了这次任务并且要求把瑞恩从敌后带回，他从自己的连队挑选了7位战士去完成这次拯救任务。从电影的开头到影片结束，爱国主义和人文关怀都得到了充分的体现。
