Abstract and Key Words

Abstract: The aim of this thesis is to make an analysis on Jane Austen’s Views of Marriage in Emma. Emma is regarded as the last achieved work of Jane Austen; of all her novels, the one which represents her relatively mature views of marriage. In this novel, she describes some youth’s understanding of the marriage. Austen indicates that true love is very vital in marriage, and it is also necessary to take the economic factors and social status into account.

摘要:本论文旨在对简•奥斯汀的小说《爱玛》中的婚姻观进行剖析。《爱玛》这部小说被认为是简•奥斯汀最成熟的著作,在奥斯汀所有小说中,《爱玛》代表了她对婚姻的观点。在这部小说里,英语论文题目,她描述了几对青年对婚姻的认识。奥斯汀认为真爱在婚姻中固然很重要, 同时还应该把经济因素,英语论文范文,社会地位考虑在内。

1. Introduction   
1.1 The Introduction to Jane Austen
Jane Austen was one of the most famous female writers in English literary history. She was not a prolific writer, however, the popularity of her six novels had endured hundreds of years and recently a movie about Austen’s life and her literary creation has been shown around the world. Austen, with her particular insight into “women’s problems”, had won praise from both critics and readers. She was born at Steventon on December 16, 1775, the youngest of seven children. Austen was an English novelist. Her father was a rector and a scholar with the profound knowledge, and her mother was born at a rich family with the good cultivation. Thus, with the favorable learning environment, Austen received her education at home and acquired a thorough knowledge of 18th century English literature. She learned French and some Italian. She began writing at her age of 13, showing her intelligence on language. Austen's genius as an artist was recognized from the very beginning. From 1811 until 1815, with the release of Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Emma, she achieved success as a published writer. She wrote another two novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, in 1817 both published, and began to write a third one, which was eventually titled Sanditon. The first twenty-five years of her life she spent at Steventon. In 1800, she moved with her family to Bath. After the death of her father in1804, she lived with her mother and sister at Southampton and then at Chawton .In 1816, she was suffering from a serious illness. In 1817, she took lodgings at Winchester to be near a doctor. She died on July 18, 1817. She never married in her lifetime. After her death, she was buried in the Cathedral.
