The Catcher in the Rye,published in 1951is the most representative novel in Jerome David Salinger’s life. Although it has only several hundred thousand words, it has had a huge impact on the society of the United States.
Banned by many schools and libraries when first published in 1951, “The Catcher in the Rye” has been courting controversy for half a century. Nowadays it is one of the most frequently taught books in the United States’ English Classes of high schools.
In fictions, an anti-hero, sometimes anti-heroine as the feminine, is generally considered to be a protagonist whose character is contrary to that of the archetypal hero, yet typically retains many heroic qualities. On the other hand, an anti-villain is considered to an antagonist who, in contrast to the archetypal villain, elicits considerable sympathy or admiration.
