This research is a general comparison between Korean’s onomatopoeia and Vietnamese’s onomatopoeia with the opinion of linguistic comparison taking the main goal. Moreover, to reach the research goal, researcher carries out a comparing examination on the morphologic symbolisms, phoneme, and signification. Therefore, we can find out the similarities and the differences between two languages.
In the third chapter, the Korean’s onomatopoetic form symbolisms and Vietnamese both have the single word and reduplication form. Reduplication form is both divided into repeating all and part of a word. Moreover, repeating all part of a word is divided into the same syllable reduplication and a part of syllable reduplication.
In the fourth chapter, the researcher makes a study on Korean-Vietnamese’s phonemic symbolism of onomatopoeia and the existence of sound symbolism in two languages. In the onomatopoeia of two languages, the language sense difference occurs depending on the consonant - vowel changes. Moreover, the characteristic of two languages both have the language sense difference upon the final syllable.
In the fifth chapter, the researcher carries out an examination on meaning category system of the onomatopoeia, thence, surveying the similarities and differences in Vietnamese-Korean. Furthermore, through the meaning category comparison of this onomatopoeia, we can see that the people sound, the animal sound, natural phenomena sound and things sound all have the reduplication form.
However, the difference of two languages is that the Korean onomatopoeia doesn’t have the difference in the tone and quite a few situations that Vietnamese doesn’t have onomatopoeia corresponding with Korean onomatopoeia.
The researcher hope that through this research can help Vietnamese learning korean language and Korean interesting in Vietnamese language in comprehending onomatopoeia.
