This study aims to improve and develop business Korean textbooks in the way that learners can easily understand and use them very effectively in real business situations.
The problem in the business Korean textbooks currently used is that they are lack of practicality and applications to real business situations. Therefore, we need to develope business Korean textbooks to satisfy learners' needs. In order to improve and develop business Korean textbooks in practical ways, we analyzed two business English textbooks and Korean textbooks for general purpose and occupational purpose. In addition, we investigated learners' needs of Korean for general business situations. Based on them, this study is composed of the following.
Chapter 1 describes the necessity and purposes of this study with presenting the previous researches. Chapter 2 represents the theoretical backgrounds of business language education, and description of business situations that learners can face. Based on the previous backgrounds, we have analyzed two business English textbooks and five Korean textbooks. The results of my analysis are used as directions for improvement and development of business Korean textbooks. Chapter 3 involves the investigation of business situations in which Japanese feel importance and necessity of Korean. It is directly related to practicality of the business Korean textbooks. The business situations are classified into 9 topics and 69 subtopics. The analysis of the results has been done to be applied to determining main subjects of each chapter in business Korean textbooks. Chapter 4 proposes the improvements of business Korean textbooks and several principles for development. Based on them, we have suggested a representative model of business Korean textbooks. In Chapter 5, we summarizes the discussions.
In this study, we successfully suggested the directions for business Korean textbooks design. This study could be applied to establishments and developments of business Korean textbooks focused on practicality and their applications.
