Abstract:At present, under the current situation of education, the number of class is becoming larger and larger in rural middle school, the number of one-class ranges from 50to70. However, the difficulty of managing a super-size is widely acknowledged. Many class activities appropriate for large class are not feasible and mutual activities between teachers and students or among students decrease due to limitation of time and students’ number. Therefore, the first thing to do is to change the English teaching approaches and improve the quality of large class English teaching. Cooperative learning is a theoretic and strategic approach applied by many countries in the world in the past three decades. Many researches have proved that it is a creative and effective teaching approach; the application of cooperative learning can change the traditional method of English teaching. 

   The essay begins with present situation of English teaching in large class, focuses on the application of cooperative learning in middle school large class English teaching. Meanwhile, this paper introduces the strategies of application, on one hand, teachers should create stimulated learning atmosphere, pay attention to the change of teacher’ role; on the other hand, students should make full preparation before class, become active participants in class, etc.

摘要:目前,在中国教育现状下,农村中学班级的人数越来越多,每班的学生人数达50到70人。然而,大班人数多,课堂控制难度大。许多非常适合于小班的课堂活动在大班中也失去了有效性。师生互动也由于课堂时间和人数的众多而大大减少。因此,如何改变英语教学法和提高大班教学质量,是英语教学的当务之急。合作学习是目前世界上许多国家都普遍采用的一种富有创意和实效的教学理论与策略体系,应用合作学习能够改变传统的教学方法。本文从中学大班英语教学现状入手,探究合作学习在中学大班英语教学中的应用。同时,本文提出了相应的应用策略,如教师为学生创造良好的学习氛围,注意教师的角色转变;学生应在课前做好充分准备,积极主动的参与课堂活动等。
